Try to use media that says "Made in Japan" or "Verbatim" and don't burn faster than 4x.

Try
Burning at 1/2 the rated speed of the Disc you are using
Set the targer area at 4300 mb
and like attar says Get good Disc.

It's so easy to blame the media that everyone does it automatically. If the audio is out of synch, however, that is an indication of an encoding problem, not a disc problem.

More information is required. What software are you using? What drive and firmware version?

I have a 4x Verbatim DataLiePlus Printable DVD-R and for some reason I cant select a slower speed than 4x. It seems this is the lowest for roxio.

The limitation could be in either the drive or in Roxio. It is probably more likely the drive because firmware engineers don't like to write firmware for multiple speeds for multiple discs--there are just too many versions and they have to get the product to market as quickly as possible.

4X is a good speed for those media. Your drive appears to be an HP version of a Light-on drive, which should be a good combination of drive and medium. That is more evidence of a software encoding problem--or even a problem with your DVD player, especially if the disc plays properly on the HP drive in the computer.

There is one other possible explanation. If the disc freezing, skipping happens in the second half or towards the end of the disc, it is remotely possible that the printable surface has contracted during curing and has caused tilt problems. This was not uncommon with some coatings used on early 4X DVD media. You had not mentioned that the discs were printable discs originally.
