(1)To be playable on a DVD player and want to convert to AVI format.
Just search in google by using WMV to AVI this keywords. you will find the site. There is a program which can convert wmv to avi.
(2)To convert WMV to MPEG1, Please try to use AVI to DVD/VCD/SVCD Converter Pro.
P.S. they are not a freeware.

Well, I have tried the free version and it is enough for converting wmv to other formats that can be played by DVD. So do you think I am selling a freeware...

I chance to know a edited by ddp supports video formats such as MP4, MOV, 3GP, AVI, WMV, RM, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, FLV and ASF. And it supports audio formats including M4A, WMA, WAV, MP3, AAC and AC3. All these video formats can be converted to one another with excellent quality.
It is also one of the best video converters that can convert WMV to AVI, VOB to AVI, and even convert video to Youtube and Youtube to video...
