Hi, I have an NTSC-U Wii.

I put Brain Academy (PAL) in and it asked for a system update. I turned the wii off and went to the system settings and looked for an update through that. It said I already have the most current system software. So should I update the wii via brain academy?

And how to do you check what version your wii is?

The latest version for the Wii right now is the 2.2 I think! I would think that it would be fine, but you may want to look around, and see if others have had success with this game!

There is still a chance of a system brick even if you have the latest PAL 2.2E version.

The problem that has come to our attention is Nintendo releasing firmware that is labeled the same firmware # but it has been revised.

Lets say you have a PAL Wii system and have the original 2.2E firmware. The next update that comes out is still labeled 2.2E but they have added a few things to the existing firmware in a sense revising the 2.2E firmware.

The problem is Nintendo doesn't label if and what revision the firmware is. So you have no idea if the new firmware that your installing is a revised firmware or not.

Your PAL region firmware could be effected if you install a higher revised 2.2U or 2.2J firmware then what the PAL firmware is which could possibly brick/semi-brick your PAL Wii.

Lets say you have done the below updates on your PAL Wii:

2.2E
2.2E Revision 1
2.2E Revision 2 (which you now have the most current PAL 2.2E revision 2 firmware installed)

You now play the BBA NTSC(U) game disc which has a 2.2U revision 3 update on the game disc.

The 2.2U revision 3 update would overwrite your 2.2E revision 2 firmware possibly bricking/semi-bricking your Wii system.

There is no way of knowing if a revised firmware will region brick your Wii. The only thing you can do at this time is to download Wii Brick Blocker and patch the ISO disabling the update on the game disc. Then burn the newly patched ISO to disc.

You can get Wii Brick Blocker from the link below...

All of this information is included in a guide that has been stickied which shows you how to protect yourself from a region brick. below is the link to the guide...
