hey guys wassup. i just wanted to inform you that the highway 35 bridge in minneapolis has collapsed killing at least 5 with 8 to 30 people missing and 78 wounded. i am from minneapolis and recently moved but i am in town to visit my ma. let me tell u it is insane up here traffic is soooo backed up... every one has to get off the free way and cross a little tiny one lane bridge... there is already alot of construction so it is insane... i went to look at the bridge and it is HORRIBLE.... just to let u guys know this is the biggest news in mpls i have ever seen

This happened a couple days ago. It was on the front page of probably every newspaper and every news station. And I think it was 7 dead with 30 people missing.

to be more specific it was Highway 35W not Highway 35E (those from MN will recognize the two different highways being miles apart.

this happened a couple days ago now of course (August 1st), and oddly enough George Bush was in Mpls today, giving a speech and talking to Gov. Pawlenty (which apparently makes this bigger then Hurricane Katrina....)[not trying to say that wasn't a big deal, just stating that bush came here]

I'm from Minneapolis, Mn but now live farther from the city, but still in MN, but of course have driven the bridge regularly in the past.....

my advice to anyone in minnesota that wants to see it in person go to the guthry theatre the new one on the river cause it has that endless bridge across the river i went there today... but it closes at 11 am to the public so i only got a really good glimpse.. but it is insane

It is hard to think of the problems caused by losing the main artery of Minneapolis.

Although I live about 180 miles from Minneapolis, I can't even venture to guess how many times I have crossed that bridge, going to Vikings/Twins games, or heading down south of the Cities.

It is a very sad situation, and my thoughts/prayers go out to all of those who lost family members.

All over Europe there are waterways, aquaducts and bridges built by the romans 2000 years ago and still in use. Now, a bridge breaks in half a few decades after it's built. What's wrong with this picture?

With 147,000 vehicles going over them every day? Doubtful.

Well, we all know that space aliens built all that stuff, way back when anyway, so therein lies what's wrong with this picture. :)
