"Write Error" is not very descriptive.

The burner firmware is up to date.

The write failed around the 2 minute mark it would appear.

While you are using DVD Shrink, Nero is actually doing the burning. It appears that Nero 7 was installed over Nero 6 since there are references to Nero 6 in the log as well as to Nero 7. Uninstall Nero, run both the Nero 6 and Nero 7 Clean Tools, the Nero Driver Clean Tool and Registry Checker, and then reinstall Nero 7.

To checkout the burner, use DVD Shrink to create an ISO image file for the project instead of directly burning to disk. Then use ImgBurn to burn the ISO image file you created in DVD Shrink

and it worked fine,

why do you think that just this week Nero quit working

i have used this set up for months and it has always worked fine until now?

i will start using imgburn from now on but i would like to know the mystery why my current set up quit working

Thanks

It may just be due to a communication error. DVD Shrink is controlling the burn but Nero is actually doing the burning. As I mentioned in the previous post, your installation of Nero is garbled due to the mix of Nero 6 and Nero 7 elements. Whether that's the cause or not, I don't know. I seldom do a direct burn. I always opt to create ISOs and then burn the images later. My rationale is that if you get a bad burn, you don't have to redo the project.

It is possible to use DVD Shrink to autoburn with ImgBurn:

Check your data cable and make sure it's seated firmly in the drive. Change the cable if you have an extra one available.

indyagent-
You DMA is turned off and needs to be on. At least that's the way it looks in you log file. I don't know how accurate it is. Here is a guide by my buddy "alkohol" on how to turn DMA back on. http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm?id=231

Maybe that will get things working again. Do as laddyboy suggested and clean your Nero and then reinstall. You shouldn't have any problem after all of that is done.

Well, that error message does not tell me if you have your setting set to DMA or PIO. Follow the directions in my last post and make sure your drive is set to DMA.

After you have a certain amount of failed burns your drive will switch from DMA to PIO. You have to manually switch it back or you will have the problems that you are currently experiencing.

The Error message does tell me that your firmware is out of date. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=17 Scroll down to Liteon LH-20A1P and you will see the latest firmware update for your drive.

I dont really know how to flash the DVD drive so if you have a step by step that would help but it has worked fine for months

i went to check my DMA settings but this is what i found and it looks nothing like the info in the posts above

http://www.damagesoftball.com/Picture1.jpg

I check the cables and they are firm and they are only a few months old.

i never had a problem with DVD shrink and Nero until this past week and since then i have created about 6 coasters.

any suggestions?

Thanks

Read the instructions again. You have to double click on the controller to get to the Advance Settings tab. That is where you will see if you are running DMA or not.

When you start having burn failures Windows will automatically change your DMA settings. This causes even more problems. You need to take the first step. Send me a pic after you double click the controller and select advance settings tab.

You have DMA enabled so let's go to the next step. What speed are you burning at? What type of media are you burning to?

Are you burning to the edge of the media? In many cases if you are not using quality media and it burns to the edge it will cause problems. I use quality TY media DVD-5 and set my max output at 4450. If you are using a lower quality disk then you may want to set your max output to 4435.

I can't really answer for ImgBurn giving you coasters, but you can try to update your Nero. http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/nero7-up.php

If that doesn't work, give me a clean Nero report to look at.

To update your firmware, click on this link and download to your desktop:

http://www.liteonit.com/DOWNLOADS/ODD/LH...re/DR20KL0N.zip

The file is an archive so you need winrar or winzip or some other unarchiver to open the archive.

After opening the archive, double click the KL0N.exe file to execute the firmware updater and follow any prompts.
