I have a suggestion that would both increase afterdawn members, posts per day, and ofcourse afterdawn traffic.

What this sight needs is for every member to show how many posts they have below their rank.

This is the KEY to a succesfull popular website!!!!

People will be eager to post much more often for the sake of post count. Naturaly, spam would be punished.

I dont even post my computer problems, or basically anything here anymore, because nobody gives a sh1t about other peoples problems, or to bother to provide any opinions. I post all my computer issues at a gaming forum: edited by ddp. 10th most succesfull forum on the internet, ofc you can see everybodys post count. No matter what you have questions about, people jump in and post their opinions within minutes on the topic. Spammers get warned ofc(warns go from 10%-minor, to 100%-out).

But seriously... sometimes your waiting for days for anybody to say anything about one simple question. Nobody gives a sh1t.

Anyways, I guarantee this feature can only bring benefits to this sight. And im totally surprised its not even part of the sight yet... this forum isn't going anywhere without it.

EDIT: so I misspelled site, sue me, I wasn't thinking about that at the moment.

the problem is that AD doesn't want the kind of people that would only post for postcount's sake; such a thing is exactly like posting for rank, which the forum has had its issues with many times. the last thing any forum needs is a bunch of internet egotists. among regular members, reputation and reputation alone is the only thing that really matters.

posts go for days without an answer because the person with the proper knowledge hasn't yet come along. and this is entirely a volunteer operation. no one can reasonably go on a forum and expect immediate results. such instances of instantaneous gratification are the exception, not the rule.

you don't really qualify to say you don't post much on here "any more"...you haven't been around that long as it is. forums have an ebb and flow to them; no one is around for a constant, steady schedule over any real duration of time.

afterdawn has been around for almost a decade and by no means needs any help in gaining members, especially impatient and lazy interslobs asking the same questions that have been answered a million times.. hell, we're swamped with idiots as it is.

as for spammers, no warning needs to be given. spam is an immediate ban-issuing offense.

clever way to spam for your own forum, though. you sure do make it sound appealing. perhaps you're struggling for members yourself? otherwise, why wouldn't you just stay there if your results were so much more adequate?

post edited. post count won't be added below their ranks as not a key to a successful site when this site has 500k plus members.

People have more insensitive (right word?) to post their OPINIONS and their imput and knowledge on the subgect at hand. They aren't posting garbage for postings sake. Repution of this forum is falling, as well as its activity. ALL OF THE SUCCESFULL FORUMS online thrive on posting activity, something less than shy in this forum. Thus, reputation sky rockets when activity sky-rockets: Linear equation, Algebra 1 I think. Easy to understand if you really try.

wrong, and wrong. Nobody bothers to post their knowledge on the posting subject. Want an example? There are like 100 poeople posting their hjt logs in Windows and Spyware problems subforum. And one or two people who know what their doing posting their opinions in a few of the threads, one or two people trying to help. 75% of them are ignored alltogether. And yes, someone can reasonably go on a forum and expect immediate results. On theforumthatforsomedumbreasonimnotallowedtoname you can expect people posting whatever knowledge they have on whatever problem you post, a great advantage toward solving your problem.

lol, wrong again. theforumthatforsomedumbreasonimnotallowedtoname is more than steadily active by all members. The forum offers so many attractive features it makes this forum look lifeless. Nobody leaves that forum, it IS a constant steady flow of members. Even if you don't post there that often anymore, they always drop in to see whats up. And dude, I qualify. If it wasn't for theforumthatforsomedumbreasonimnotallowedtoname Id have been a senior member here along time ago.

theforumthatforsomedumbreasonimnotallowedtoname has been around for 5 years and has 55 million posts.

then there shouldnt be a problem at all with allowing a visible post count, as spammers would be totally eliminated, only the valuable opinions remain.

First of all, its not my forum you idiot. And how can you be so dumb as to assume the #10 forum on the internet is struggling with members? Its the most rapidly growing forum ever. And I said spam is dealt with there, maybe you guys are to lazy to deal with it here, and dont want to have to bother with the trouble? Anyways, trust me I am staying at that forum lol. For every 1 post I do here I do 50 at theforumthatforsomedumbreasonimnotallowedtoname.

Im not advertising. Its not my forum. Im just saying its 100 times greater than afterdawn. I have an account there too, I can give you a link to my profile if you want, its just so happens to be called Kulith. And the amount of members have absolutely nothing to do with the success of a forum, im surprised a moderator would say bullsh1t like that. And this site has record low members post activity. 679144 members: 2339846 posts. Thats a 1 : 3.4 ratio, if there is another forum on the internet that low ill be surprised.

EDIT: H3ll, im trying to IMPROVE this forum.

it's "incentive." and you severely overestimate people. in any system where there's a reward of any type for posting, people are going to spout a lot more than is necessary to resolve a situation. this forum is by no means unsuccessful or failing.

this is a tech forum, not a social chatterbox invite-trading, ebaying, meet-people-to-go-drinking-with community. 99% of the activity that happens here is not posted, as people are reading information that has been clearly placed to help them with their electronic issues.

the *only* cause of any dip in forum quality would be the little teenyboppers that hop on and know no forum etiquette and try to hold threads that do not belong here. they either grow up, fade away, or get banned.

easy to understand, yes,but not relevant to this type of online community.

nobody posts help because the answers are easily found with a search and most posters are just being lazy. this type of behavior is not to be rewarded with assistance. it only clogs the forums.

and you know what they say about too many cooks....different procedures screw things up. you don't need 35 people helping out with one problem.

going to a forum not designed to be a chatroom without issues that belong on said forum would be a classic symbol of having no life. when internet savvy and polite members want to chat, they hop on AD's IRC channel. instant help is also often available there, as well. the forums are, for the most part, more of an archive of knowledge added to daily than anything else. repeats are punished.

and you qualify, huh? that's amazing, considering your posts only go back just into february of this year. talk to other long timers, who have been regular members for 2, 3, or 8 years. you'll start to understand how the system works.

the evidence shows you to be an unreliable witness and any statements you make need to be read with suspicion and scepticism. such exaggeration only hurts your arguments.

spammers are a recurring nuisance on most forums, especially those as large as afterdawn. the only effective ways to cut down on them also cause severe inconveniences to regular members, something no one wants. the admin and mods regularly dispatch of them, and the community understands.

oooooooo, uber-tough e-thug on the loose. as with all your statements, ol' #10 has to be taken with a grain of salt. this kind of bovine excrement is a popular system of propaganda used to draw members to failing forums.

this is just my personal thought, as i can't speak for a community, but how about for every 50 posts at your other forum, you don't make any here? if you dislike this forum so much, go prune your own.

wasn't your previous argument that post levels should be high? if so, why is a low post level among members a good thing? that show that a lot of members create an account and do nothing but read--pretty similar to what goes on here.

really? i thought you were just doing the thing lots of young people do--bitch and moan about stuff that doesn't matter.
