Does it matter if you use DVD-R blank media or DVD+R media to create viewable back-ups?

I'm in the buying stage, this is all I have left to buy....

Thanks

yes.
Depends on what your burner supports--if it supports -r, you need -r, if it needs +r, you need +r. If it supports both, then it depends on where you are trying to view it. Generally speaking, -r is more compatible, but some standalones prefer +r.

All things being equal, -r is probably more compatible and is cheaper and can commonly burn faster.

Thanks.

My burner does both and I bought a box of +R, just needed to know if I should take them back and get -R before I open them....

Thanks Again

you don't have to. They may play in your standalone or whereever else you want to play them. You can check standalone compatibility at

I use +R and have had zero issues with playability on 3 stand-alones (Sony, Pioneer Emerson), my puter DVD-ROM, or on PS2.

There is no problem so big, that a brick placed against the proper skull cannot fix =)

Use -R media, +R are more likely to not be supported from a DVD player and they are not the official blank DVD format supported by the DVD Forum (this is DVD-R).

The 90% of the players will work with -R, while just a 70% of the players will play +R. Especially the older players that do not support DVD writable discs at all may play with DVD-R.

Note that there are even computer DVD readers that cannot read DVD+R.

Another question...

Do you have to use re-author to rip a DVD in DVDshink 3.5?

Can you just deselect the features off that main screen and go???

I need the menus...

Well it is DVD Skrink 3.0 beta 5.

Except that yes you need to click re-author and by that you lose the menus.

What you can do to keep the menus is to set compression for the extras at "Still Pictures", deselect all the extra's audio and then backup.

There is another way to keep the menus, I read it somewhere but I don't remember. Anyone knows?
