updating wiid firmware

so with this new update to the wii. if people have not put a wiid in yet, and then put one in after updating the wii to 3.0u, will the wiid still be able to update via dvd to firmware 02? i am only curious b/c people are saying the wiikey will not update. thanks!

Well, I already upgraded my wiid's fw, but I haven't updated to 3.0u
