Hi everyone!

I was wondering if some one could lend me their expertise!
Ok bascially i wanted to know if it possible to burn a x264 stream in a mkv container onto a normal dvd and play it and watch it?

The original movie is a 720p HD-DVD down to 4.37GB.

Or will i need a dual layer dvd to enjoy the movie?

If i dont make any sense im sorry and just let me know and ill try to explain better...

Thanks
diabolos

Play it on what? It won't play on a DVD player but it will on a computer.

Why MKV?

Plus the 720p file would have to be down converted to 480i to play on a DVD player and it would have to be converted from H.264 (AVC) to MPEG-2. The MPEG-2 file would have to be placed into a VOB container for 100% certainty of playback.

I think what he was asking is if the file were saved as a data file could he save and play it off of a regular dvd drive. I think he could, but not in reg DVD Movie format, only as a data file in h264. Can some add some input to this. I have watched HD trailers streamed to my computer without a HighDefinition drive.
