Resident Evil backup keeps crashing just on MY Wii

Got several games for the Wii, originals and backups, and all work perfectly. Had the 2.2E firmware, and upon loading Resident Evil, it all went fine till got to the title screen, where the top 10% or so of the screen and the bottom 10% of the screen were flickering (hard to describe - looked a bit like trying to watch an ntsc dvd on an old portable tv that couldnt sync to to the 60 hz signal). Anyway, went to extra's and it played the video ok, but when I click on options, or game, screen goes black and the Wii freezes, requiring a reset - all buttons on remote freeze out. Tried the same dvd in a friends Wii, and played perfectly. Came back to mine, cleaned it, did the same. Copied it at a slower speed, same result, yet all my other games work fine - anyoen any ideas what on earth is going on?
Oh - did the latest online system update and still the same.
