so I think I am going to play it safe and stay with the older firmware but my question is, are new games going to force me to update? for example I am pretty sure Metroid Prime 3 comes out pretty soon and it will have an update on it to 3.0, will brick blocker stop this? and will some games require an update to run properly?

Brick Blocker should disable the firmware. I have updated to 3.0U and my system works fine with my Modchip
