Greetings !
I have tons of tv episodes on my pc in divx format, can I simply burn a dvd data disc and play them on my divx compatible home player or do I have to convert the avi/divx to vob format ?
If conversion is a must which is the best software for divx to dvd conversion?

Load the files onto the DVD as a data disk.
No conversion is required - still burn the disk at less than maximum.

Can I do the same when I transfer video/pictures for HDD camcorder to pc or do I need to make some kind of conversion once on pc before I can burn it onto dvd.

Generally, the files have to end up as DivX with a maximum resolution of 720 x 576, so if the video is some other format (mpeg comes to mind) it has to be converted..

So if I understand you correctly it needs to be converted since it is mpeg format once it's transfered to pc from Sony camcorder hdd.
There is no possibility to do direct mpeg to DVD, correct?
For example, once it's on pc I have 20070813.mpg
I've tried different softwares (Nero, roxio, & what comes with comcorder) & writting will just stop within few seconds, Is it becasue I'm trying to burn mpeg onto DVD?
What Software should I be using

There's plenty of programs that will convert MPEG to standard DVD format for your home player. DVD Flick comes to mind. I use it all the time to convert MPEG's and AVI's to DVD format. DVD Flick also burns the converted files to disc, so that when it's done, you just pop the finished DVD in your home player and you're golden! DVD Flick will do tons of other formats also, not just AVI and MPEG. Here's a link to a DVD Flick how-to guide:

This might sound like a newbie question or perhpas already been answered, so since all I have right now on my pc are mpeg files what do I need to have it converted & what software do I use?
My regular dvd player doesn't play divx, so what do I do, what are my options?

There's tons of programs that will convert the various formats to DVD format playback in a regular home DVD player, but I've found that DVD Flick works the best: it works with all formats (AVI, MPEG, WMV, MOV, ASF, MKV/Matroska, etc), creates an ISO image if desired, will do subtitles if desired, PAL or NTSC, produces high quality DVDs, and it burns the movie too. And it does all this in about 90 minutes or so; time will depend on your PC's power and if you're actively using it while converting. It's best to turn off all screesavers and just turn off the monitor and go do something else while it's converting.... Anyway, see the above post for links!

Tks, I'll give it try to revert how it went.
I presently have "ConvertXtoDVD" which I use from time to time to convert "XVID" to dvd, I assume I could use same for mpeg into dvd.

ConvertXtoDVD seems to work but I have 2 more questions, hope you can answer them.
A) It creates 2 folders "Audio_ts which is empty & video_ts which is full of files with different extensions, .vob .bup & .ifo
Now the question, where do I go from here, what do I use to start my burning process, which of these files must be added and/or drag & droped.
B) Do you know how to remove pause between each video clip off of hdd camcorder or after it's been converted.
This way it would like a full length movie & won't see all the pause and/or satrt/stop between each clip.

OK- ConvertXtoDVD works good too. You'll have the 2 folders AUDIO_TS (which is usually empty) and VIDEO_TS (which contains the actual movie in several files .vob, .bup, .ifo). Using Nero, select DVD, select Burn DVD Video Files or Make DVD Movie (the actual wording may be different for different versions of Nero), then drag-n-drop the 2 folders (AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS) into the Nero window, click Next, make sure the burn speed is at 8x or less for best results (I always use 4x, but I'm a patient man also), and that's it! If you don't have Nero, you can use Final Burner in much the same way as Nero. Or, use an app called Folder2ISO to create an ISO image of the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders, then burn the image to a DVD using your favorite burning tool; just about every burning app will burn ISO images (just be sure you select "Burn disc from ISO image" or "create CD/DVD from image".. the exact wording may be different depending on the program you use, but you get the idea). Do NOT try to burn the ISO image as a data DVD! It won't play correctly. Here's some links for you:

O.K.............more trouble............Trying to use Nero & get following error message at 2% mark of writting process.
I have converted & got my Video_ts & audio_ts & followed instruction but writting comes to a stop almost immeediatley, here is the log:

Diagnosing Nero error logs is beyond my scope of knowledge. Maybe your video files are corrupt? Maybe the blank DVD has scratches or isn't compatible with your DVD burner? Compatibility issues are fairly rare, but they do pop up from time to time. Maybe update your burner's firmware. Or try a different burning program or technique. Try the Folder2ISO method layed out in the guide I linked to above. Or try Final Burner. I know this doesn't solve your Nero problems, but it's all I can do. Like I said, Nero error logs aren't my thing. If all else fails, start a new thread in the Nero forum and post the error log there and describe what you were doing at the time when the shit hit the fan. Good Luck!!!!!

If you have time, you could always convert the DivX files again using DVD Flick. It'll burn the files too. Then you'd at least know if the source files were corrupt, or if something else happened alonmg the way; maybe ConvertX had a hiccup.... I don't know... just a thought....

Well, the thing is that I did use convertxtodvd to convert from mpeg & its' burning feature to make moive dvd & it plays well on regular dvd player. Now what I'm also trying to do is to make copy of this
dvd so I use Nero's copy dvd feature to make duplicate dvd but even here it still gives me the exact same error message.
I'll take your suggestion & convert mpeg files again & see what happens.

I have had problems w/ ConvertX in the past and don't use it too much anymore. There's so many other apps out there that do an equal or better job without the occasional headache that ConvertX caused. I never had any trouble like what you're reporting, but it's given me audio problems, pixelation/artifact problems, one DVD came out in total slow motion! The file size had doubled, and it played at half speed! The sound too! It was actually kind of funny to watch Shrek3 in slo-mo :D Anyway- I've pretty much stopped using ConvertX in favor of DVD Flick and WinAVI 8.0 and ImTOO MPEG Encoder (of course there's the regular tool box with VCD Gear, VirtualDub, KLiteMega, VLC, and all the goods needed for anyone into burning movies and/or media files in general). I'm starting to ramble... sorry. Anyway- there's other tools out there that will do what you need (DVD Flick for one, there's another called FAVC that is fairly new to the 'scene' and I haven't used it yet, but I've heard good things). Try one of those instead of ConvertX and see what happens.

I do this all the time, burn the divx files or avi files onto the dvd blanks as data, and it will play in your divx dvd player.
