I recently decided to mod my fat v7 ps2 console. I use CogSwap with the Independence Memory Card Exploit and a homemade flip top. I have tried playing back ups of two of my games: Odin Sphere and HeadHunter. I have heard many things about which brand dvd to use and have tried several, but have the same problems with them all. I have been told Sony Dvd +R's would be perfect but during the Odin Sphere the load times are extremely long, and the sound repeats, glitches, and lags. In HeadHunter the loads aren't too bad (probably because they are short to begin with) but I still get some of the sound glitches, It is sort of like listening to a scratched cd (but not as bad). I have tried several different DVD brands (Sony, Memorex, other??) and apps to burn the games (Nero, MagicIso, Dvd Decrypter, Alcohol 120%) but still get the same problems with these games (only games I have tried). Also it is not the Iso's problem because I sent the iso through aim to one of my friends to test it, he said it ran good and he said he used sony dvd's. Also, I have cleaned my PS2's laser and Insides in an attempt to speed it up (i think may be the problem) with no success. If anyone knows what I can do please help me, I am getting sick of wasting so much time and so many DVD's.

What rated speed are the disc you tried and at what speed did you burn them at? Is your dvd burner firmware up to date? Is your computer fairly old and if so are you making sure to turn off everything else while burning the dvd?

Im burning at slow speeds like 2x and 4x. My comp is new and all apps are closed while burning, I will look into the firmware thanks alot.

@dwaynep
I have been told -r is better than +r for games on other forums but then there is usually an argument on the forum and its always ended with some super smart genius person telling everyone it doesn't make a difference.

Thank you both so much for responding.

Depending on the kind of disc you are burning to 4x and 2x might be to slow. The general rule of thumb tends to be half the rated speed of the disc. So 16x disc should be burned at a minimum of 8x and so on. I agree that -R and +R wouldn't make much of a difference but some PS2 do like one over the other so I would definitely try both just in case. Just make sure you booktype the +R disc though. Also you might want to try rebuilding those two games, perhaps that would help as well.

I have used Sony DVD+R but make sure the Book Type is set to DVD-ROM when you burn, and yes your burn speed should be 4x.
I have no problems with any of my backups, I usually use DVD-R but like I say the above method is fine.
You can buy Taiyo Yuden in Canada in stores, strange they are saying only online.

Thanks for everyone responding but I am now nearly positive my problem is my laser. How do I change the book type to dvd-rom. If my burnt games boot would that mean they are dvd-rom, or is there a chance that this is my problem.

It could very well be your laser, if it acts up on most DVD's. You could try adjusting the pots also and the cog, helps for awhile.

Also to booktype in Nero, read here: http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm/1665
And in DVD Decrypter: Look where it says click here in the picture below to change Booktype for DVD+R media. It automatically chooses it for DVD-R media.
