My mother won't let my rip DVD's on her computer with my 2.0 USB external DVD drive/burner. So, will it mess up your computer?

First of all....u shouldnt have told mom what u were gonna do. lol j/k mom.

Keep in mind that dvd burners and dvd ripping software are designed to be used with computers. Tiz not something you are forcing upon the computer to adapt to or withstand.

Most operating systems and software that comes installed on computers these days, includes programs that assist or actually rip or burn music or video files. Would the manufacturers include software that promotes *messing up* their creation?

It has no more negative effect on the puter than watching a DVD movie does. Your DVD playing software reads the DVD and translates the files into the video you watch. A ripper basically does the same thing. It merely READS the DVD. But instead of playing the video file like the player does, it COPIES the file onto your HD.

In fact, a ripper only takes around 10-20 minutes to read the DVD, while her player/viewer software does its thing for 1.5 or 2 hours. Therefore, logic dictates that ripping is easier on your hardware than playing is.

Mom prolly doesn't like the term RIP, since it implies violence of some sort. But I assure you, people only use THAT term cuz *copying* doesn't sound nearly as kewl.

There is no problem so big, that a brick placed against the proper skull cannot fix =)

The simple answer is 'no'. Try explaining and make sure to delete the ripped files when done.
