Ive got a band hitchi console and was wondering if it will be safe for me to buy a core and use the same hard drive on my banned box as the new one. Could I get the new console banned by using a had drive from a banned machine. I dont want to delete all the game saves on my old drive.

Or would it be better just to buy a second pro console and just take the extra hit on my wallet

well, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to buy a core and use your hard drive, I don't believe they ban the drive, just the motherboard.

You can use your the HD from your banned console on a new system, it does not affect it in anyway, I switch every now and then, but I dont play my backups anymore, just play my originals on my live machine, so my hard drive has been stuck on there for a few months now.
