The University that I am at will not allow any p2p connections and i can't seem to get past our firewall. Can any one give me some help or atleast a chat room that I can go to to ask questions?

Thanks

Well, I personally don't know of any ways that you will be able to get past the firewall. The administrators block alot of ports and therefore the only way that you will be able to get past that is by letting the administrator give access to those ports that p2p use. Normally they wouldn't 'cause of the fact that there will illegal trafficking of files which could get them into trouble.

Maybe it is purely a question of setting your p2p app up so that it accesses the internet through a proxy server. In which case you will need to find at what the address is of that and the port number. Then just read your p2p help file and find out where you should setup access through a proxy server.

I'm just a noob tossin' around ideas in my head here, but couldn't you try using eMule and setting it up to run on port 80 (http)? Just a thought.

A proxy server is probably the way you'll have to go. eMule might work, but it will connect to destination ports different from HTTP's 80, so the connection might still be blocked.

A good idea which most people might think but unfortuantely a dead end (i was on Resnet the last 2 terms). Port 80 is typically really STUPID for university nets and results can vary looots. Consider using something simple like Overnet and using some seriously obscure ports? (i.e TCP 15646 and UDP: 56214 .. both random jumbles).

A VERY important point that for some reason all residence members forget to check (except me, then again i was ResNet staff also) is to READ THE DOCUMENTATION hehe many times ResNet will post all sorts of info about free and locked ports, accessible subnets etc. Read up on it. Its a lot of reading but could save ya a lot of work in the long run.
