Hi all, im new to these boards and i couldnt find a thread which covered this so if im repeating what someone else said then sorry.
i just wanted to know how does the ps2/ps3 know that the game is a backup? is there some code in the game or is it physically stated or what? is there anyway of changing it? thanks

yes, prior to game data / programs... the disc is first read to see if it is a real game or dvd. swap magic/mod chips send the playstation the information it needs to begin reading a disc.

The ModChips copy some things from the BIOS to the disc to make the PS2 think it's a real disc.

think I've seen somewhere that ps2 disk intentionally have bad sectors in them while normal disk won't have the bad sectors so it wont read them.
