Hello I have a wiikey and ive burnt 2 dvds so far
-Wii play
-Wii key setup disk

Bolth of office depot brand DVDs

Then foolish as I am I updated to 3.0U so of course you know that the update disk no longer works. I then had to go buy new dvds cause I ran out. I bought memorex dvds.

Then I tried to burn the new gundam game(patched with brick blocker) and it didnt work so I tried burning it multiple ways

-1X 2X 4X 8X and 12X all in nero
Didnt work Got the black screen every time saying to eject disk

So then I thought maybe the update turned off Region free so I needed to burn the GCOS disk

-1X 2X 4X 8X 12X all in nero again
Got same message as before

So then i thought it was a media issue so went out and bough maxwell DVDs

-Bolth gundam and GCOS at 1X 2X 4X and 8X
still not working

I then used imgburn to see if it was a problem with nero

burnt bolth at 1X and 2X
and they sill arent working!

I have no idea what else to do but try diffrent media

Please help me if you can

Maxell are used often in this forum as well.

This could be an issue with the region lock being turned off on your Wiikey.

You don't necessarily need it turned ON if you region patch the Game Disc to play on your NTSCU region system.

You said you backuped Wiiplay. Did that backup work and does it still work after updating your Wii to 3.0U?

Below is a link to Wiigion Free. Download it and try to region patch the game your trying to backup to NTSC(U) region. Then burn it and test it out.

http://webpages.charter.net/larrylje/wiigionfree_1_0.zip

As to the GCoS bootup disc go to the link below and try the Application linked there...

http://psx-scene.com/forums/nintendo-new...g-bootdisk.html

After downloading the Application extract it into a folder. Now choose Create_iso_NTSCUS44Other.bat which will create a GCoS boot disc ISO to burn to DVD. The ISO size should be 4.37 GB (4,699,979,776 bytes)

After you create it (Make sure the ISO is the correct size) burn it to DVD. Now insert it into your Wii and START the disc in your Disc channel. GCoS should boot up at this time. After it boots up swap the GCoS boot disc with your Wiikey Set up disc and press A on your Game Cube controller. This should launch your Wiikey set up disc for you to change your settings.

Is it always necessary to use the GCOS disc before inserting the Wiikey setup disc?

I've got a Wiikey-modded US Wii, now running 3.0, and I have not been able to get it to read my Wiikey setup disc. I've tried to boot the wii without the disc, get to the Wii menu and choose the top-left item, and then insert the disc, but I always get a "can't read disc" error. Totally stumped, I think it's a bad wiikey chip, but maybe I just don't know how to actually run the setup disc (v1.2). Thanks.

If you have updated to the 3.0 firmware then the Wiikey setup disc will not work by booting straight in the Wii.

You will need to go to the link i provided above and make a GCoS boot disc. When GCoS loads you can then swap that disc with the Wiikey disc and Press A on the game cube controller to boot the Wiikey Setup Disc.

larrylje - I bought a NTSC/U Wii with 3.0u firmware from a friend and I have a wiikey coming in the mail. I was wondering if the GCoS boot disc method would work for the initial setup of the wiikey? (being that wiikey setup disc wont load with the new firmware)
Also, how long do you think it will be before there is an update for the wiikey setup disc? Thanks for any information you can provide.

@wtc05

If you have a genuine Wiikey and not a clone then the Wiikey should already be set up after the install.

I have heard a few say that they had a clone Wiikey and had to run the set up disc first before the Modchip worked.

Wiikey has been promising an update for the longest time and it still hasn't been released. More then likley they will hold off on releasing that update so they can fix the new Wii 3.0 firmware issue.

Thanks, I was worried I would be sol until an update. I looked on wiikey.cn and saw that they have been plagued with delays so kinda Im glad I dont have to count solely on them.

Along the same lines as the setup disc, if I use that reppa app from psx-scene to put some roms on a disc will it load without any problems?
