Problem I had... or should I say my 7yr old had. PS2 slim won't spin Browser screen stuck = No gaming! I searched the net high and low for remedies. This was a very low mileage PS2 he has had for a couple of years. Never opened, dropped etc. But, still the problem. Was convinced I needed a laser or disc motor. I found a combo laser/disc motor for a reasonable price and was about to purchase. Anyway, while at the browser screen, I noticed if i pushed down on the cover the disc would attempt to read momentarily. That made me think the laser was not dead, possibly motor sticking. but still functional. I ran across another post on this forum. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/335960 The second line with the geocities link had pictures of the lid sensors and how to by-pass them to do the magic swap, whatever that is. So I by-passed just the left rear sensor with a small piece of velcro. Yes I know, a southerner without duct tape... what's the world coming too. But it's all I had, except for scotch and masking. Put it back together and it worked perfectly. So my guess is it was just a little off and not making contact with the lid hinge. I'm sure there are bad lasers, motors, fuses etc. out there, But yours could be a simple problem too.
Sorry for the long post, but maybe it will save someone else countless hours of searching the net.

this is brilliant this is the kind of stuff people should post: about there problems explaining it fully and if they solved them, then the exact details of how it was solved. i dont have this problem yet but this should definitely help someone in a similar situation. well done.

Yes my PS2 slim used to stop spinning occasionally. On most cases (exept the last one!) sometimes pressing the disc holder spindle down,
or the disc lid and the motor jumps back in action!

I am clueless. Is it V12 ps2 if it is then you are okay. cause none of them usually last longer than a year without problems.
I would suggest getting the laser replaced(It replaces whole laser unit).

Thats the thing. It's a whole unit. Laser, spindle and the gear are all one accessory which means even if one of them go bad you need to get the whole thing replaced. OR may be theres some hair or something stuck in your spindle.
May be these videos may help you.
