Hey

I have just been modding my wii, its a D2B one wich all the legs and points there.

I burnt away point 3 on the baord so im going to solder to leg 5 on the IC chip.

Im just wondering what would happen if i get a short and turn the wii on and how would i know if i have a short or not?

thanks for your help

Theres always a chance you could ruin the chip if you short pins. It could also disable the DVD drive all together until you undo the solder that is bridging connections. Just be careful and make sure you don't bridge anything causing a short.

Hi, Im just taking advantage of this thread to skip starting a new one.
Im worried about a similar case, I trusted a friend with experience on soldering and the electronics field, the install of mi wiikey on my D2B (3 cut legs) wii. He did installed correctly based on the instructions on the webpage etc.. but he accidentaly put some solder in the pins beside the chip (on the d2b chip), and the worst of all he did not took the solder immediately he just waited until it dried out, then after correctly installing the wiikey he supposely cleaned out those pins, and the chip was not on short anymore. But when I turned on the console I noticed something odd (disc did not load when the console was turned on, only when it was off, and after they ejected the wii just started to load the disc again, although you had enough time to take the disc out)
The point was the wiikey never worked (never read backups) but the wii read original discs perfectly (wiisports), so I though it may be the wiikey so I installed another chip and it did not work either.
So my concern is did I ruined de D2B chip forever (so my chances of modding my wii), or a expert technician can do a crazy cleaning of the pins and my chances of modding can have life again.

Thanx
