AV multi out cable causes incessant humm and video intereference

hey all,

i just bought a ps3 but have yet to enjoy using it!! haven't got past the setup lol

i have an old component video AV multi out from my ps2 days, and when i plugged it in to the TV and ps3 (ps3 is still off at this point), an incessant humm can be heard. (2 channel RCA audio)

strange i thought. turned the ps3 on and i can see lines scrolling vertically - appears like interference of some sort.

ok, so i try the composite video cable that comes with the ps3 thinking i need a new component AV multi out. Same issue.

I can't understand where the audio interference is coming from even with the system off!! Any ideas?

I'm getting really frustrated and think i may have purchased a lemon...

oh, and i'm running on 1.50

figured it out... was a ground loop isssue!

yeah... i had the same problem... i just bought a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter and that seemed to fix it for the most part... but if someone in the house uses the treadmill the vertical lines seem to come back.
