I tried connecting with my router and can get on the internet fine when it is hooked up to the router. but my 360 wont connect to xbox live. when i run the test it says ip address failed, but after I hook it up to the modem only, it says dns failed. I put in the ip address of my router, and my ip settings address subnet mask and gateway all match my computers. why does the dns keep failing?

Had this problem as well with a DSL modem (PPPoE connection). What you must do is set your DSL modem to Bridged/Ethernet as the connection and then set up the connection in the router as PPPoE. Then everything should work... that is if you're on a PPPoE DSL connection.

Of course, always power cycle your modem and router first before you go changing any settings. Power cycling might work.
