Scratching my head with this one...an early Dec 06 PAL Wii...would appreciate any thoughts....
I fitted a Wiikit (effectivley a wiikey) to a friends Wii for him, put it all back together, then tested it on a backup disk, which did not start, and gave the "?" screen saying unable to read disk.
Strange I thought, the soldering was perfect but I figured I'd check the wring with a multimeter, and all points did show continuity. Thought I'd give it one more go, and this time the game started no problem. Tried it a few more times and all seemed well so I gave it back.
Got a call the next day saying that one of his 3 backup disks had stopped working. A few minutes later, none of them worked. His corresponding originals did still work.
Figured all it could be was a faulty chip, so we ordered another one, swapped it over today, and still backups failed to boot. Then I tried a wiring change even though the multimeter had showed it to be perfect....and still no change.
So, I removed everything and have effectivley given up.
Backups were on Ritek G05 and Verbatim -r disks written at 2x and 4x respectivley. These disks worked on my Wii. Firmware was 2.2U.
I'm thinking the only thing that it could be is a dodgy laser and a bad disk read as the error message indicates.
Is there anything I can try/do to get this working ?
