PlayStation 3 passes independent stress test for durability

Sony America chief Dave Karraker has proudly noted on the official PlayStaion blog that the PlayStation 3 was put through an "independent stress test" by PS3 Vault and that it had passed with flying colors.
The test, entitled ?How to kill a Ps3 Console? put the console through over 200 hours of operation in various adverse conditions that no gamer would ever have to endure.

Now if only Sega or Sony could produce some top tier games..Dark Cloud 3..Ico 2..Shadow of the Colossus 2..Silent Hill..sigh. Nowhere to be seen.

As with many other products one thing that helps everyone when things like this come out is simply one word: [b]competition[b]. If one console can last in such conditions, even ones that are not "typical" for the "average" gamer, then I am sure somewhere down the line the competing products may try to do the same.

Try putting a game taht actually challenges the 8cell processor or the GPU, then it might just overheat, with just a poor array of games that hardly even touch the barrier of the processing power, it is pointless testing it with those games, u want to have games liek GoW and then try it on the ps3, a game that woudl severly challenge the ps3, just liek it has done with the 360 and caused soo many 360 deaths.
Playing a BR movie uses jack all power, and proabbly gives the ps3 a nice chance to cool down.
CPU's get a lot hotter then 120oF, thats like a normal computer CPU temp, heck when i run games mine onyl hits 40oC so this si a pathetic way to test it out, i'm sure the 360 CPU gets to voer 80oC

ok, so it was tested in "envirnomental conditions" but was it tested with games that require alot processor or non stop useage for 200 hours straight without a break...

Why do the haters come to these posts if they hate the PS3 so much? When I don't like something I stay away from it.
On Topic.....
Developers need to stop being lazy and create a game the uses all the power of the PS3 and then test it again. Imagine how fast the 360 would blow up if there was a game that used all of its recourses. Or is that why they are blowing up?
Also... I wouldn't want to be the guy that is sitting in the freezer for 24 hours playing games. I wouldn't want to have to play in the sauna either but it sounds better than freezing my ass off.

lol not sure if ppl should put their xbox360 to the test..108hrs straight could lead to the ring of death :P lol jk..but its good to kno that the PS3 can endure those. Next up xbox360 and wii's turn.

Was someone actually playing any games or was it just the intro screen repeating over and over? I would guess that BR playback would take quite a bit of the resources of the machine. HD playback is memory and processor intensive, ask anyone with an HT computer setup. Not that I think it would maximize resource usage for the PS3, but it's still a decent barometer for endurance. The fact that the laser diode did not fogg is a small miracle.

I would really have to disagree with this test.
one I don't really know what they did in the real enviroment.
But I have this too say if they have dogs and cats in the house one of each and at least 2.1 kids then it would be a viable test and if the hair of the animals didn't get it the the kid would. plus kids age 2 and 4 then 1 cat 1 dod maybe 24 hours in a real room with air then I would believe this.

Really sony I know you read this and if you do I have one thing too say put cameras in a house after 6m months 1 dog 1 cat and 2 kids 2 and 4 and then you will have th environment too work with then give it too the people and see what happens with pet hair high temp fan no air and dog and cat hair if any ony can prove this test wrong do it after they mad they piece of crap mini PS2 I lost there respect and really want too wait too the forth generation, I loved nes and snes and psx hated nin64 thats when sony got me psx was me.
you do all realize all the 3rd gen systems were created 3 years before they came out so that means take off 2 years from the release thats when they realeased the realease date of the system.
please excuse me I am ventening and sorry.
I am a Nin child well maybe atari 2600 but don't know what age for what system for to be a child of that system does anyone I would like too know was 11 when I first got 2600 in 1982 so yes I am 26 and a video game person.
I have had a few to drink but really I would like too know what you think.

i see some people saying that they should have tryed putting a game on the ps3 that will use alot of the processor. because gow killed alot of 360's and stuff... well if gow was out for ps3... i would still be playing it online right now lol. my 360 broke and i had the ps3 longer. i had it 2 says before launch... i had 360 for 3 month. just got xbox live. and all i did was play GOW and lisend to music. now i use my ps3. and its silent... no noise. plus ps3 will get a game that will use everything the ps3 has... it is something that xbox wont have....METAL GEAR 4!!!!!!!!!!!...
oh and if xbox went on this test. just ejecting the disc 10 times will cause the ring of DEATH!!!!!!!!!!

Although I've viewed Sony products as high quality, I've never considered them reliable. But this is impressive. I remember being surprised watching the "smash my ps3" video, noting how tough the thing was. If there aren't any DRE's or something popping up everywhere 2 years into the ps3's life, than kudos to Sony.

I would really too know how it rally is in real world test and I mean real world.
Because if I took a remodled small ps2 piece of crap it would last a week in my brothers house 1 cat 1 dog 1 4 year old and thats it.

who cares really about metalgear. once u beat it. there is no point in playing it again. cause unless u have the memory retention of a glass of water. playing metal gear thru single player campaign a second time is boring. i still never played the Acid Series twice, same with Snake eater and sons of liberty. and even the first one.
i never got into portable ops tho.
u might wanna play it like 3 years later just to remember that u paid 60 bux for a game that took more that 3 years to make that u beat in 3 days.

I love your quate thank ou for that and I believe I am the same after 12 too 3 days you get the same deal the end and what then that need a game tha is different everytime you play right or I may be be wrong.
