I was reading this on xbox-scene today and couldnt believe what it said about the Red Ring of death, here it is:

[QUOTE]
When the console seizes up and dies, three of the "circle of light's" quadrants blink red, but when the video cable pops out four of the quadrants blink. Apparently, a large number of consoles returned to Microsoft with the dreaded Red Ring of Death were perfectly fine and just the victim of a bit of red ring hysteria.

There have been so many returns, in fact, that we've been told Microsoft plans on disabling the four ring error code on future builds of the console. No word on whether they will remove the three-ring coding as well.

What does anyone else think about it.

MS suggested MAYBE in the future to disable the 4 red light which is due to the video cable being disconnected.

Not the 3 red light due to hardware problems. So sure, this makes sence. As long as MS is really receiving alot of consoles which are truely problem free, like they state. Even if MS doesn't repair the console, it still costs them a good penny to ship it both ways.

I would actually love to know the definitive #'s of unrepairable 360's that people have spent money on as this would seriously damper/affect/lower the "10.?? million" consoles MS claims are out there. This would absolutely put them in second place (in terms of current sales) compared to the Wii and make the gap between the PS3 & 360 closer than it "shows".

I thought the Wii already overtook the 360 in sales last week?

The 3 red ring death is very serious. If I remember correctly it is due to the system overheating and warping the boards inside of it.

Happened to me :(

They did disable the 4 ring video cable light. On my Elite, it doesn't do anything without the component cable and won't even boot with HDMI unless I turn the TV to HDMI. Then it'll boot. But no 4 lights.

Yes updating the sofrware destroys the hardware, well known fact...

It's an overheating issue, that simple. If you've taken your 360 apart it's apparent why it overheats, components are packed in their like a can of sardines.

So that explains why people are getting "refurbished" units back and get the 3 ROD within a few days (or less).

M$ got the unit and it worked for them, so they blame it on people sending in units that didn't have the av cable hooked up and got the 4 ROD. :p

Good show M$. :p

My same xbox 360 broke twice to the 3 rings of death. 1st time it was under warrenty and not modded. Microsost fixed it . Took exactly 3weeks 4 days to fix. When it broke the second time it was modded so I brougt it to www.xbox360-pros.com( a place in Long Island, NY) to have it repaired the same day. ( I live in NJ ). It cost $150 to fic and took 1/2 of an hour.I watched them fix it. They put it in an oven to loosen all of the solder points. then they replaced all the heat sinks with better clamped ones. Then they replaced the cooling system (fans). My xbox got a make over. The F-ing thing makes a lot of noise due to the new fans but man is it cool(literary speaking). If I was to send it to them via mail it would have cost only $80. But I wanted my xbox back as soon as possible. You should have seen all of the broken white 360s on the shelves. It remindend me of a morge with those shelves that open up to dead bodies that you see in TV.The room must have been 20 x 20 wall to wall white 360s
stacked on top of each other. Man what a business. These guys work6 to 8 hours a day on 360s. Its something I'll never foget.
