Trying to burn Hulk

I am using Nero 6 and DVD Shrink 3.0 Beta 5.
How much compression is a good thing before quality is compromised? When looking at the extras how can you determine what the extra is? I am very new to this so any help would be appreciated.
If anyone has successfully burned the HULK please let me know what you did.

first of all i dont like dvd shrink...if your not meticulous and dont need the extras,credits, added features....etc..then do what i do...get dvd decrypter(newest version) which you can get at afterdawn ...then download DVD2ONE and select movie only....then burn it to a regular DVD R USING nero 6...works for me and with AC-3(dolby)...AND WORKS PERFECTLY!!!!!

Fine except the result is no better than DVD Shrink plus you've had to fork out for DVD2ONE whereas Shrink is free. The extras are things like the menus and extra programmes about how the movie was made,etc. If you just want the movie just click on re-author. Compression up to about 30% or so is usually fine. After you have re-authored you can also uncheck any extra subtitles and audio tracks which are not required or necessary. This reduces compression even more. hard to say how much is to much, some films come in at under 4.7 for the main film where as others come in at 8gb. is an 8gb compressed to 4.7 as good as a 4.7?
i have gone down to 60% with shrink and things looked ok. its down to your tv and your eyes.
If they did not want films copied they would not make it so easy!!!

60% is reasonable for compression but try and keep compression to a minimal as you will have far better results with less compression. I remove all of the features including subs which give me more space for the movie. (Extra features are anything else excluding the movie)
I used CloneDVD & AnyDVD to backup the Hulk with great success. DVD Shrink also does a decent job when all of the Extra features have been removed.

60% is not the compression rate, it is 100% - 60% = 40% which is just about OK, especially if you have a smallish screen to watch. The 60% refers to the what the files have been compressed 'to' not 'by'.

So,am I understanding correctly? That to remove the menu's & extra's in DVD Shrink you use the Reauthor application of the program ?

Yes. That will backup the movie only. If you are using the latest version of DVD Shrink you must also drag the main file (the largest file in the left column) onto the re-author screen. Then uncheck all subpictures if you do not require subtitles and all extra audio files (you only need one). This ensure minimum compression. Then click on backup remembering to also select 'analyse' if compression is more than about 10%. Hope that helps.

I'm using DVD Shrink 3.5 beta to backup The Hulk. After I anylyse, I click reauthor and drag the main movie to the new window. I get a title 1 and a title 2 with each having 3469 mb. Even getting rid of all other extras the file is still too big. Is it safe to delete one of the titles?

You should not use 'analysis' until you actually backup. There should only be one movie file. Try again and use re-author straight away without analysis.

No, elgm2003 is right, there was 2 parts to the main movie of Hulk when you reauthored. I couldn't figure out the difference between them, so i just copied the whole disc to be safe.

When I re-authored, I dragged title 1 over to the new window and deleted title 2. (title 1 and title 2 were together) It worked. Saw the whole movie. :)

i haveyet to get hulk to work i thought 1 was widescreen 2 full screen. i did 1 burn error did 2 burn error any ideas. this is the first movie i had a problem with

Usually 2 titles about the same size is wide screen and full screen. Wide screen is usually 1st one with a slightly bigger size. (may not always be true).If you think both are part of the main movie just check the preview window. I just check beginning and end to see if both start the same and both have ending credits. I think discmania is wrong about the compression figures. As you remove items from the re-author window the % goes up. His way of thinking the figure would go down. Jerry

I got The Hulk by reauthoring using DVD Shrink 2.3 and selecting the 1st Movie title, removed all foreign languages and left only English subtitles. I -think- I was forced to set compression to Level 5 - 25%.

Hi all. :)
First off, I'd suggest you deselect "View" >> "Combine shared titles"; it might make it simpler for you in the future. :)
The second title in "Hulk" can be safely deleted as it is only the equivalent of the "White Rabbit" in the "Matrix"; a way of "branching out" of the movie to view some extra features. ;)

I used Shrink 2.3 for a while then I switched to Shrink 3.0 b5. They switched the way compression ratios are shown. I just know that I like bigger percentages with 3.0. I can notice a loss of quality at 65 to 70%. I burned hulk at 75 to 80% with some parts compressed to 60% or less. I applied a lot of compression initially then less through the action scenes. Its a big movie! I know when I say compressed to 60% that really means 100%-60%= 40% compression but I just find it easier to say what the program shows. Whew!

Hey Fasfrank. Was on one of the other threads with you . Haven't tred Hulk yet. Holiday seasons dont leave me with much free time. On this compression % thing. As you said I like the biggest number showing possible. When you decrypt with shrink 3.0b a dvd under say 4.4gig that needs no shrinking. the percent shows 100% meaning no compression. The way everyone else is doing the math it would show 0% meaning no compression. I'm pretty sure if it shows 65% you are only missing 35% not the other way around.

Hi Jerry, Yes you are right. No compression will be 100%... let me go out on a limb and say that if it indicated 80% then that would be 20% compression or the title in question decreased in size by 20% and is now at 80% of it's original size. :) I may be wrong lol

Not for long though, then you need to be right twice a week. I was a newbie untill about three days ago then by some unknown mechanisim (to me) I was "promoted" to junior member! Maybe just the number of posts and not the content in my case.
