Guess what. Im sure that you have read a million ways to "Try" and fix this message:
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Programming Error - Exception occurred
The Handle is invalid.
Well I have just spent the last TWO DAYS trying to fix it with their advice and nothing worked....until I did this
(This was corrected on a Windows XP Computer)
This is what my current ASPI setting are at:
WNASPI32.DLL = 4.712
WINASPI.DLL = 4.60
ASPI32.SYS = 4.712
WOWPOST.EXE = 4.60
(A bunch of websites have you running around in circles changing these settings.)
Then I right-clicked the DVD Shrink icon, select properties, and clicked the Compatibility Tab. Then I changed the compatibility mode to Windows 2000 and viola, I fixed it.
Was this an 'XP' or 'Vista' fix?
I run DVD Shrink under XP and have no system ASPI installed - the likes of Nero installs its own version and nothing else seems to need it.

I'm with you. I've used my XP system for a long time and I've yet to need ASPI added. As you said, Nero and other programs install their own when needed. All the times I've seen ASPI cure a problem, rarely, it's been ASPI and some other fix. I'm always left wondering, would the "other fix" have cured the problem without ASPI. As long as the XP system is healthy, the system doesn't need ASPI. If a user can't find the interface problem, it doesn't take that long to reload windows. Not 2 days anyway. Unless of course they're stuck with dialup for updating Windows.
