Slim PS2 Mod Chip Issue

Im on vacation in mexico and they have a modshop down here so I decided while I was here Id get my slim ps2 modded I didnt think thereŽd be any problems since IŽd gotten my xbox modded here before and it works fine,well turned out i was wrong the 1st day i got it back it worked perfectly,but the next day it wouldnt read backups just originals,they can probablly fix it for me but Im worried the mod chip will just break down agian after reading about issues people have when modding theyre slim ps2 I was wondering if I should give up hope and get a modded fat ps2 (btw i dont know what kind of modchip they installed)suggestions?
