Can someone explain in details how to upgrade from 3.03 OE-C to CFW 3.52 M33?

I know that the forum has many articles focus on the issue of upgrading PSP's firmware to CFW 3.52 M33. However, I'm afraid of breaking my PSP if doing wrong thing. I'm also confused whether I need to downgrade my PSP to 1.50 and upgrade again to CFW 3.52 M33? Can I keep existed data on memory stick (iso/save files/some applications)?

I just found this (there are 2 instructions in one file):
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
3.52 M33 Full Installation
----------------------

Tips:

If you have cf previously installed on your 1.50 or anything like that, you can still upgrade
without cleaning the flash out. Also you should restore your psp back to default settings.

-=-=-=-

1. Double click the installer, Choose your PSP drive letter and then press "extract" to memorystick.
This will install all needed to your Memorystick, needed for the upgrade.

2a. If using 1.50 firmware, Run first "kxploitpatcher", it will patch the firmware so it can load unkxploited eboots
(if using SE or OE follow on from step "2b").

2b. Run the flasher("3.52 M33UPDATE"). If your battery is less than 75%, the program
will show an error saying the battery is to low and it will return to the XMB.

3. If you have enough battery, the program will continue and will show an agreement. Press X to
accept it and it will flash the custom firmware to your psp. Do not turn psp off or take
memorystick out while flashing is in progress

4. After finishing flashing, your psp will reboot to XMB and you should now be running 3.52 M33.

-=-=-=-
.......................

---------------------------------

This is custom firmware 3.51 M33 Full.

---------------------------------

PSP 3.51 M33 Installation

1 - If you are under official 1.50 PSP firmware, copy kxploitpatcher and kxploitpatcher% folders from "1.50only/" of this
download to your "ms0:/PSP/GAME/" and use it.

2 - Once done it, or if you are under any Special/Open Edition, copy M33CREATOR folder to your "ms0:/PSP/GAME" (1.50fw) or
"ms0:/PSP/GAME150" (SE/OE)

3 - Download official 3.51 eboot, rename it to 351.PBP and place it on "ms0:/PSP/GAME/M33CREATOR/" or
"ms0:/PSP/GAME150/M33CREATOR/"

4 - Download official 1.50 eboot, rename it to 150.PBP and place it on "ms0:/PSP/GAME/M33CREATOR/" or
"ms0:/PSP/GAME150/M33CREATOR/"

5 - Go to Games/Memory Stick on your PSP, and execute "3.51 M33 CREATOR". Once finished, it will go back
to the XMB.

6 - Go again to Games/Memory Stick on your PSP, and execute "3.51 M33UPDATE". You'll have to press X to
agree to the installation.

7 - When finished, press X to shut down and reboot manually.

8 - Enjoy your 3.51 M33 ;)

-M33 Team

Well, if you're really not sure then you could use an auto-installer, however these don't work with all PSPs (Not sure why).

Doing it manually isn't hard if you follow the readme files and make sure you put things in the right place.

Here you can find the 3.52 M33 update files.

You will also need the 1.50 EBOOT and 3.52 EBOOT files. You can get these here and here.

Ignore the instructions on the Sony website, just get the file from "Download procedure" step 3.

You will have to extract the 1.50 EBOOT file, but the 3.52 file is already extracted. Name the 1.50 EBOOT to 150.PBP and the 3.52 EBOOT to 352.PBP.

Now take the M33CREATOR folder and place it on your PSP at this location: ms0:/PSP/GAME150/

Now place both the 150.PBP and 352.PBP files into the M33CREATOR folder on your PSP.

You can now disconnect your PSP from your computer and run the update after it has finished it will have created another icon on your PSP, run this, after it has finished you will have firmware 3.52 M33.

Make sure your battery charge is above 75% and/or has a charger plugged in before you do the update.

EDIT: Yes you can keep all your existing files on your PSP.

Thank you. I decide that I will do manually but my PSP's motherboard is TI82 and uses custom firmware 3.03 OE-C should I care about these?

shokz,

I have a japanese psp. If I use north american 3.52 and 1.50 official files during this procedure, will it change everything to american version (I'm thinking it will right). Do you have the links to japanese 3.52 and 1.50 that works with the M33 3.52 update?

I also have a Japanese PSP, and use the American updates, it doesn't "change" the psp in any way (apart from button switchover) which you can change in the recovery menu anyway.

Why do you want to use the Japanese update? To keep Japanese as a language? It is still selectable with the American version.

dude that is perfect! I didn't know that, I used a winstaller to go to 3.40OE-A (where I am now). I will use your method to update then. I have 2 final questions...

Step one says "If you are under official 1.50 PSP firmware, copy kxploitpatcher and kxploitpatcher% folders from "1.50only/" of this
download to your "ms0:/PSP/GAME/" and use it. " I'm not on official 1.5, but those files are in the m33 rar anyway. Should I copy them as well or just start from step two (copying m33creator folder).

once you update to M33 3.52 by this method, can you run this M33-4 update (http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1231) immediately? Or do you have to update to m33-2, m33-3, then m33-4. It's not necessary right? Thanks a lot.

edit- i want to keep the japanese so I can use japanese language yeah, for input and viewing mp3 file names. The Japanese one has korean language as well.

Yes, you can skip the 1st step, and after the upgrade, you can put patch 4 of straight away, you don't have to do each one.

Well, presuming that QJ is actually being blocked by it (Which i don't know if it is). On the main PeerGuardian 2 window there will be button to the top right saying "Allow HTTP", click it.

thanks shokz, I got all the files I needed :)

-do you by any chance know how to run the patch update? there is no readme file for the m33-4 link I posted. all it has is a M33update4 folder which you put in game150, and an seplugins folder which I think goes in the root dir of your memory stick. Do I just copy the folders, then run the EBOOT from my xmb?

All the files you need are there, though you don't need to use the seplugins folder, if you want it you can put it at the root of your memory stick (It's only the popsloader i think).

shokz, everything went fine to

7 - When finished, press X to shut down and reboot manually.

then I pressed X, it shut down. When I reboot it all I get it black screen, then it powers down by itself. Do you know how to recover it? I do have a 1.5 recovery winstaller but I try holding R and I can't get to the recovery menu, it just goes black screen then powers down again.

Ouch, you have a full brick :(

Though you shouldn't worry, Team Noobz (At least i think it's them) are releasing an unbricking app to recover a brick from update 4. Let's hope it's soon.

Oh... then you have a full brick. Nothing can be done. It can still happen with CFW updates, even though it is now very rare.

Sorry to double post, but a universal PSP unbricker has just been released by Team Noobz, boafan, you're in luck :)

Get someone else to run the program with their PSP and then you can get yours unbricked, here is a link to the original thread.
