D2C Chipset common in North America?

I've just recently bought a few Wiikeys and I'm wondering how common this chipset has become.

Is this only in NTSC? Only in PAL? I haven't opened my Wii yet, but if I'm going to void the warranty I want to at least be somewhat assured that I'm not doing it in vain.

Just for reference, I bought the Wii about two weeks ago. Man I hope this thing isn't fucked from the get-go...
