File format shows as TAP when transfer movie from panasonic vid camera to pc HELP

When I download video from my Panasonic digital camera to my pc it is stored on the pc as a TAP file format. This format does not appear to be recognised when I attempt to burn a copy to a disk. Very much a beginner and becoming extremely frustrated!
