Many video enthusiasts want to split a large FLV video file into smaller chunks for editing or resharing only the interesting tidbits on the internet. Most programs require that you convert the flv into to another format( E.g. avi) and then back to a flv. I discovered the following flv editing/splitting by accident:

There is a free program called :
SUPER © v2007.build.23

http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html

This program can split a large FLV into smaller parts and keep it as a FLV file.

Once you install and open this converter you will see at the top 3 oblong boxes, each has a drop down menu.

First. Drag your flv file into the processing (grey) area of the the program.

In the first box select the 'swf or flv (Flash)'

In the second box select 'flash video'

In the third box select 'mp3'

Once these are set look at 'Video box' at the extreme right hand side you will see the 'options' box. Click the tab named 'other options'. Another box will pop up.

Tic the box 'do not encode the first' ( enter the number of seconds)

then

Tic the box 'encode only for a total duration of' (enter number of seconds)

Hope this is of help to your users.

BTW you will need to open your flv file in an appropriate flv player and jot down the times where you want your new flv to start and stop. This is because you will not see a visual display of your flv in the super program. You now drag your flv into the super converter and enter the time values etc. Hope this makes sense.
