Thanks for looking. I hope you have experience with this. Basically i bought a NETGEAR WGT624 108mbps router along with the WG111T usb adaptor for longer range. My goal is to have fast internet connection in my room on my dell d600 running winows xp laptop. It didnt come with any drivers or installation guides. Downstairs is the dell computer with the westell broadband modem with ethernet connection. I know the router has to be next to the modem. But how do i do it so that my laptop reads the connection from downstairs without having to connect the lanport from my laptop to the router. Please if someones been through this and knows a good step by step way of hooking my **** up. That would be GREAT. I want to do everything you can do that requires internet connection on my PSP so im real eager. I want to experience PSP tube and Stream TV and all that good stuff. Thanks in advance, and sorry for the long post.

The tech specs on Netgear.com state that it supports wireless b/g at 802.11 standard. The WG111T is nothing more than a USB Wireless device. So, you can take that out of the equation. As for your wireless router, I assume (I hate assuming, it leads it errors) you have some form of High-Speed ISP. Ex: DSL, Cable Modem. Simply connect the cable line from your wall into the surferboard box (Cable Modem). From there connect a Cat-5 (typically comes in blue, grey, or occasionally yellow with a connecter that is slightly fatty than a telephone line) and connect that into the LAN line on the wireless router. Now, plug in the AC Adapter for the wireless router first. Wait for the lights to blink (30-60 seconds). Now plug in the AC Adapter for the surferboard box. Every light (except for PC Activity) should go solid (lights on and stays constantly on). On the wireless box, a blinking light should then go solid. You now have wireless. From there, connect another Cat-5 into one of the avaiable 4 ports on the wireless directly to your computer if it's within range. A physical connection is typically stronger and faster than wireless.

This is what concerns me: you say "i got the phone line connected to the modem. A phone line is dial-up and NOT High-Speed. Wireless Routers only work off of high speed. Also, you say you must use a Type 1 to Type 2 USB Cable to connect the modem to the computer. This is wrong in itself. A Cable Modem (now I'm thinking you have dial-up), you know what ... who is your Internet Service Provider? Who do you pay? Time Warner Road Runner, AOL, Earthlink, Verizon?

Verizon. Thank you. Now, how do you hook up the box? Do you take a phone cord and plug it into a jack in the wall and then to a computer or another small box? I don't know if you feel comfortable giving this info out publically, but if you told me how much you are paying Verizon, I can go to their website and backtrack the price of their services and match it to see if it's dial-up or dsl. I can find out either way, but one way it faster than the other. It would be great if you could tell me outright what your Internet "plan" is.

its dsl for sure.. we got dsl.. its QUICK.. we got a phone jack form the wall to the westell verizon mode. then i got an ethernet cable connected from modem to router... then another ethernet form router to laptop...
>> do you think its because i need another phone jack in something connected to my router,, or laptop, or both? the only phone jack is to the verizon modem. theres none on the router or laptop. Maybe this could be why. But after alllll that. Is this going to allow me to not have any wires connected to my LATOP SO I CAN JUST USE IT FROM UPSTAIRS? is that what the ipadress is for? let me in on what you know. thanks for the quick responses

Ooook. You don't have DSL. What you have it a dial-up with Turboboost. You are connecting through a dial-up, the "modem" you have is a special type of phone modem that sends a signal directly to Verizons servers and asks for a connection with least latency required. What that means is all conections bounce from server to server until they reach (in your case) Verizon. What your box does is it gets a signal from Verizon saying the signal will travel from this computer to this computer, in an effort to reduce the number of times the signal bounces. It's dial-up. However, if you tell me that the Verizon box takes as input a phone line and provides an ethernet connect (it is fatter than a phone connector), then that should go DIRECTLY from the box to the wireless. If there needs to be something else introduced in the setup, then you can't do it with your network. High Speed such as Time Warner Runner Runner or Verizon's DSL (bandwidth of 5Mbps or higher) is true high speed.

On my laptop. it says... WELCOME. You are connected to your NETGEAR wireless router. Next we will guide you through connecting to the internet and enabling your wirelesss network. I then push OK. and it says... No internet Connection Detected. Please check the connections to the internet WAN Port and Cable/DSL Modem.

Like I said, this is because a wireless router REQUIRES a high-speed Internet, which you cannot provide since your using dial-up. I don't know your financial standing (no disrespect intended), but you'll have to upgrade to a high-speed DSL. I believe it's like $40-$50 a month for higher speeds. If Verizon tells you that your existing wireless router is compatible with the dial-up box they provided, ask them to send a Technician to network it for you. Once the wireless network is up and running, Windows XP has a built-in wireless utility to detect wireless device is range, connect to them, and maintain it.

Well. Like I said [no disrespect]. I DO indeed have dsl. Go look it up. Westell Model 6100.. the modem is powered up with green lights.. Power is lighted up along with, USB, INTERNET, DSL and not ethernet. Maybe i have to disconnect the usb to read the ethernet. I got to configure the cables i think.

Ok. I'm looking at the box (image) and the design diagram of it. It says "DSL In" at the bottom. This is a phone jack. This is the input. Plug your phone line from your phone jack (the one mounted on the wall of your house) to this connector. Now take a Cat-5 (ethernet cable) and connect it to the middle connector (RJ-45). the cable should run from the Verizon box to the back of your Wireless box. According to the diagram I have, to the port to the farthest to the right. As you will notice, there are five ports, but the first four are spaced VERY CLOSELY together. The forth and fifth should have a space between them. You want to plug it in on that port that is solo. Plug in AC Adapter on wireless, 30-60 seconds, then Westell 6100. It's not a true DSL modem box (a cable modem box, your's is a phone modem box), but they both share the same output-the ethernet cable, so in theory, the wireless should work.

When you go on the PSP, go to the browser on it and tell it to Scan for Wireless Devices In Range. If it finds your NetGear, it is working perfectly. If your PSP and laptop cannot find it, then you have a problem with the wireless. Even if the wireless did not have an Internet connection, if it has power, it should be detected when scanned for it. When you try to connect to you, you won't be able to browse the Internet ... which is actually a good sign of a functional router.
