Magnavox MWR20V6 E25 error on home videos

I purchased a Magnavox MWR20V6 DVD recorder just to dub my family's old home videos to DVD. I keep getting E25 errors as though the material is copyrighted, though I know that's not the case. Tech support says that my blank tapes must have been encoded with MacroVision. They have no suggestions. Has anybody experienced this and found a solution?
