So I am looking at building myself a new computer soon and I thought about creating an image, via Ghost or DiskImage, that I could use to format and restore it when if needed.

I also like being able to reduce or totally eliminate the time spent with the Windows Installation, Driver installation (although yes, they would need to be updated) etc because that, in my opinion, is the worst part of building a computer.

I figured that creating an image of the drive once I am done activating Windows, installing the drivers etc. would make this process easier for the reasons stated above.

A friend of mine had his computer come, from the factory, with restore disks that were created using Norton Ghost and it worked very well. However, I am not a fan of Symantec's products and looked around for an alternative.

I came across DiskImage by O&O and was wondering if anyone had any experience with it.

Does it work similar to Ghost in that you create a backup and then when needed you boot from it which formats your drive and puts it back to its "Original" state?

Peace

I personally use and love Acronis True Image. It has many options that one can use and has a intuitive UI. And better yet its not from Symantec. Ghost is good but I agree with your Pop I won't buy a Symantec product. As for O&O I know they have a good disk defrag program but I personally feel safer going with the a product by Acronis.

Thanks for the reply! :-)

When I saw you mentioned TrueImage I decided to look it up and I did find a review, although it looks a little older, that was Norton vs TrueImage and one nice thing I liked is that it said the TrueImage backup was 5-10% smaller then Ghost's even though it was the exact same backup. The GUI for TrueImage also looks more friendly and easier to use then Ghost which is nice. :-)

In case you wanna read it its located here:
Ghost vs TrueImage.

Yeah that comparison does look a little dated :) But yeah TrueImage is a fantastic application and I hope you give it a shot.
