Haha, we all started somewhere, don't worry.

Movies you see on DVD today are usually on dual layered DVDs. This means that the disc itself has two layers, each layer is 4.7gigs approximately. Therefore, dual layer discs are labeled DVD9. DVD5 are just single layered dvds which hold 4.7gigs.

Now the DVD blanks you buy at the store, the regular ones are DVD5, or single layer.

The more expensive ones are dual layered, DVD9,and you can burn up to 9 gigs of data approximately on one disc. Of course, you need a dvd burner that can do that, but most modern disc drives can, so that is not an issue.

Now there are a few games for the PS2 there are dual layered. See list for examples:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_2_DVD-9_games

These games you can backup 1:1 ratio to a blank DVD9 disc. However, you may have trouble playing it on the PS2 with the wrong modchip. Swap Magic is a boot disc with slide tool apparatus. It cannot read dvd9 game backups. Now there are other mod chips available that involve soldering to the PS2 motherboard, such as the DSM9 or crystal chips. These can read dual layered games I believe.

If you have a hardrive with network adapter, you can play dual layered games off your harddrive using the program HDA Loader. Some of these dual layered games may need to be patched for the HD version to work correctly though.

Is that good enough explanation?
