I have searched through a lot of threads but nobody else mentioned anything about this.

To make things simple:

1) Wii began as 2.0J with Wiikey
2) Inserted the Pokemon Revolution Battle disc (JAP and back-up) and it prompted for an update.
3) Accepted the update
4) Update complete
5) Enters settings, but it still displays Ver. 2.0J top right corner.

Why, after the update, does it still display 2.0J?

I'm guessing that it might have contained an update like 2.0 b or something but it doesn't make sense because if that were the case, it should display that.

I should also note that:

6) Pokemon game works / No longer asks to update

You will always be prompt for an update if the game disc has an update on it and this is the first time you are playing the game.

It will check your Wii firmware to see what firmware it has and if the Wii firmware is the same or higher as the game disc firmware it will not apply the update.

After running the game for the first time the Wii stores that information and skips the update prompt all together from then on.

could you answer these true and false questions

1)Same region lesser dated firmware = ok
2)Same region higher dated firmware = ok
3)different region lesser/higher = bad

your comment confuses me

If you want more information on Brick issues search. You won't have to search much if you just look at the stickied threads.

Any PAL/NTSC(U)/NTSC(J) Wii can be bricked or semi-bricked if you play an out of region game disc on your Wii + it has a region update on it.

Below is a guide to follow when playing a Game Disc that has a firmware update on it.

NTSC(U) Game + NTSC(U) Wii = No chance of a region brick
PAL Game + PAL Wii = No chance of a region brick
NTSC(J) Game + NTSC(J) Wii = No chance of a region brick

---------------------------------------------------------------------

NTSC(U) Game + PAL/NTSC(J) Wii = Brick is possible if Wii is not updated with latest firmware + Wii Brick Blocker.

PAL Game + NTSC(U)/NTSC(J) Wii = Brick is possible if Wii is not updated with latest firmware + Wii Brick Blocker.

NTSC(J) Game + PAL/NTSC(U) Wii = Brick is possible if Wii is not updated with latest firmware + Wii Brick Blocker.

This?

it makes no mention of "lesser dated firmware," that's why i said what he said confused me

Why has someone told me that it is bad to update my wii using an import aka back-up game that contains an update NEWER than the version on my Wii?

I recall that it was safe..

and yes i did search through guides etc for answer but it didn't mention anything about updating with backup disc

If you recall that it is safe, then it must be safe. (Yes this is said with sarcasm)

A Import is a game disc from a different region then your Wii. It is not "aka backup".

A backup game is just a copy of the original game disc. So it will have the same effect when updating.

You prevent a region brick by disabling the update on the backup disc and keep your Wii up to date. You can follow this advice or not.

It will be your Wii that gets F@CKed if you don't.

Keeping my Wii up to date but not disabling the update on the backup disc would result in..
