Hello,
Is 4x media better than 2x media, even if you plan to be safe and burn at 2x anyways? Would you be better off burning at 1x for 2x rated media?

I just brought the officeDepot Verbatim spindle. I think it's 2x. What do you think of this? It's my first time, so I hope I didn't mess up.

Also, in regards to media write speed, it seems like +R's write at 2.4x, and -R write at 2x, is this correct? I read on a previous thread that someone had trouble forcing their burning program to burn a -R at 2x, b/c it was burning at +R's 2.4x. Has anyone else experieced this?

Happy Monday,
Eric

Check the ADIP (Manufacturer info) for your Verbatims, likely to be CMC, personally don't like them but others, will of course disagree :)

use this program to find out the info:

Your correct about the +/-R write speeds.

Never saw the thread you mentioned but on my Pioneer 106 with Nero/Record Now DX or DVD Decryptor, it selects the correct burn speeds on all media types.

For -R media, 4x seems to be slightly better quality but i find too much variability in PI/PO error rates for Ritek media (all acceptable numbers but variable).

+R media, good quality 2.4x media (Ricoh dye type) is as good as the 4x media & it doesn't have as large a variability in the PI/PO error rates, in my experience.
