PS2 controller keeps cutting out

I have a ps2 logitech controller for the ps2 which keeps cutting out. sometimes it works again if I move the lead or controller to a certain position but if I make a slight move again it cuts out. This is my best controller for the ps2, its small and fits in your hand perfectly and the analog sticks are perfect they just glide, so I really would like to get this working. The controller lead is longer than the standard joypad lead so this mught be why.
If anyone could help me fix this problem I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
