I have a 2.2J Wii and I'm considering getting Metroid Prime 3. Does the game require an update to 3.0J?

Metroid Prime 3 has a 3.0U firmware.

There has been some conflicting reports on what the update will do on a Japanese or PAL Wii.

Some say it updated with no issues.

Some say it added duplicated channels.

I think the ones that had no issues had the Wii completely updated with the new 3.0 firmware plus the next update that fixed an issue with the Internet.

The ones that had duplicated channel installs added to the Wii menu probably only had the original 3.0 firmware updated and not the second update that fixed the Internet issue.

So if your going to try to update with the game update on the disc make sure you have the Wii completely update with the newest version of the 3.0 firmware. Keep in mind that just because it says you are at 3.0 firmware that doesn't mean you have the most resent installment of the 3.0 firmware.

i would like to state that i have not been keeping up with the 3.0 stuff but metroid DID update my wii. Suppusably 3.0 gives you some kinda mod chip warning. I DID NOT recieve this message when I did my update. So I don't really know what to conclude other than it's not the 3.0 update. Once again, take what I'm saying with a grain of salt. I'm just stating I didn't get the modchip warning.

And no I haven't checked what the firmware is on the wii menu.

If your at 2.2 firmware or below and go to 3.0 firmware you will not get the modding warning. You only get the warning after the 3.0 update is installed.

Why can't you go to your settings and confirm if it updated to 3.0U? It would clear up what firmware is actually on it.

Thanks.

I'm surprised that some people have even tried the update with MP3 if it was going to update their system, particuarly after what happened with Super Paper Mario.

I'll update my system using the Internet first, then put in MP3.

Cheers for the help all.

That is weird?!?! So what exactly did it update your Wii then?? Yours is also NTSC (USA) with Wiikey, right?

Im not sure what it updated my Wii with because I already had 2.2. And yes, I have a NTSC-U console with a Wiikey. The wiikey has nothing to do with the update though.

Since you still have 2.2, can your wii still read wiikey setup disc?

Yes - it's only if you upgrade to 3.0 that you'll need to use the GCOS disc to boot the Wiikey disc.

If you update to v3.0 you cannot use the Wiikey setup disc directly - you have to use the GCOS disc.
