I have a DELL Latitude notebook 2,0 GH. I recently upgraded my HD from 20 to 80 GBs. Before I did this (which needed a re-install of XP Pro, I had the bundled WIN DVD software which ran fine. I updated the BIOS also.
Now, when I try to play a DVD with my re-installed WIN DVD it won't play and says,"Create overlay failed, please lower your screen resolution and color depth"
Now what the heck is THIS?
I did try to lower my res which is horrible, and it still came up with the same messager.
I downloaded a freeware DVD player and it plays the video fine, but the audio clips!
I set all the options to increase performance. I am running no other programs. My HD is only 20% full. I added AC3 filters, and adjusted all that I could inc. increasing the audeo buffering and still the same with both players. WIN DVD won't play at all, and the freebee player still clips the audio.
BTW: WMP says it can't play the DVDs either unless I buy a extra plugin.
Any solutions?? The biggest irony is that the WIN DVD played the DVD fine before I upgraded and re-installed everything.
OOPS!! After doing some more troubleshooting, i found out that after loading XP, i forgot to load the DRIVER disc that came with the laptop...all is well now!!
