Hi, I have a old double sided dvd that I wish to back up. How can I rip it using Dvd Shrink. I don't want to buy dual layer discs as I already have lots of blank dvd's. I don't have any problem ripping all my other dvds to back them up. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks.

Most movie dvd's are DVD-9 (dual layer) however i reckon you might be reffering to a DVD like "lock stock and two smoking barrels" My original disc has two sides (print is on the clear centre) it's exactly the same movie but in different screen options. Is this like what you have/mean?

Or it could be a flipper like "Goodfellas"...rip both sides and then use DVD Shrink in "reauthor" mode to import both titles into one file and backup as usual.

Hi Onya, yes that is the type of disc I am referring to. I tried doing each side separetly but then it was too big and didn;t think that dvdshrink would handle it..

Your quality will suffer if you try and put two full length movies onto a single SL disc...why not just put the WS version on a disc and the FS on another?

I would have to agree with Locoeng. Or, just decide whether you want the Widescreen or the Standard version. If you want to backup both sides, you can rip each side separately and use VobBlanker to edit out the movie trailors and other unwanted junk and put it on a single layer disc. Do the same for side 2. If you still need to shrink the movie in order to fit it onto a single layer disc, using VobBlanker will eliminate some much needed space to raise the compression % and increase the video quality.

You would have to use VobBlanker to edit before using Dvd Shrink to shrink the movie files.
