I have a question about modding my sons psp for his birthday but I'm not exactly sure what modding does to a psp. I have a local guy who mods psp's for $90.00 and this is what you get....
194 isos + apps = 94 movies and 3.40 OE-A

What is all of this stuff and is this a good price?
it says everything is on a dvd-r format. If he says its on a dvd-r format what do yo do with the PSP? Your help is appreciated.

lol you can get all that stuff for free! but if you dont know how to do it and dont wanna use all of that time researching then yeah thats a good price. the format is okay because its prolly just gunna go on your computer anyway.

PSP>2.0>forgot sum>2.81>3.03>1.5>3.03oea>1.5>3.40oea>custom theme semibrick>3.40oea>3.52 M33>1.50>3.52 M33>1.50 addon 2>3.71 M33>3.71-2 M33

I am no expert on doing anything on the psp at all. I can't even figure out how to download movies or movie clips from my computer to his psp for him. I know you can go to some sites online and download some games and movies and music but I have no Idea what to do or where to go. He gets bored with the games he has and his psp just sits. I just was thinking that would be a good way to get some new stuff on it for him.

If you are not too tech-saavy, then that would be a good deal to have someone else do the work of modifying your son's psp, not to mention all of the games and whatnot...It was mentioned before that basically everything can be done for free-which is true, so you would be paying for the convenience of not having to download everything yourself which can be a hassle, and having the psp modified to accomodate the iso's and such which can also be a hassle if you dont know what you are doing...So, I would jump on that-If you can copy and paste, then you can transfer games to the psp with ease...You would just need to make sure your computer has a DVD ROM (ability to play DVD's) for those discs to work...Also you will need a USB cable to connect the psp to your computer to transfer the data...

The reason everything comes on DVD-R is all about size...You figure each game (ISO) runs anywhere between 100MB to 1.8GB and it wouldnt be efficient to try and burn the data to a CD that only holds 750-800MB of data...Imagine having to walk around with a spindle of 100 Cd's or more to carry around your games??

194 ISOs on one DVD. Impossible. It could be a scam you know. But if you do it yourself, you won't be scammed and you'll save $90. And plus, what if the downgrader he's using is a bricker. I'll explain. He could run some programs on your PSP that will get it bricked. A bricked PSP means that the PSP will be as useful as a brick. You see where I'm going with this? Basically, the person could make your PSP as useful as a brick and ask you for $90. But when you say mod, it sounds as if the person is going to install a modchip which is totally unnecessary if the PSP isn't bricked. What you should do is, look up some guides on the Afterdawn forums on how to downgrade a PSP with firmware 2.80. But before that, you must find out if your PSP is a TA-082, or a TA-086 or a non-TA PSP. Once you downgrade to 1.50, you can upgrade to custom firmware 3.52 M33. Basically, custom firmware allows you to have the features of the lastest PSP firmware, lets you play the latest PSP games whther they be a UMD game, an ISO game or a CSO game. Plus, it lets you use the official Sony PS1 emulator to play PS1 games without buying them. And you can run homebrew such as emulators. Emulators are programs that emulate game systems such as the GBA. Thus expanding how many games you can play. If you downgrade to 1.5, then upgrade to 3.52 M33, you can play PSP games in UMD/ISO/CSO formats, PS1 games, NES/SNES/GBA/Game Gear/Sega Genesis games and the list goes on and on.

My PSP Firmware History: 2.60 had to return the PSP because it had a dead pixel > new PSP had firmware 2.71 > 1.5 > 3.52 M33 > 3.52 M33-4 > 3.71 M33 > 3.71 M33 with 1.50 kernel

I dont think he said anything about 194 games on one DVD...Just that they were in DVD format....And it sounds like he doesnt really have the know-how to do it himself, so he could take the same risk of bricking as he would paying someone else to do it for him...Like I said he would be paying for the convenience of not having to go through the hassle of downloading games and going through the process of trying to downgrade his son's psp when he is unsure of what he's doing...I would still go for it...

I really appreciate you guys taking the time to explain all this stuff to me. I do pretty well on my regular PC. I built it myself and to my suprise it still works. I guess I could take a few days and read about how to do the downgrading and upgrading and emulators and see if I think I should give it a try or just let the guy do it for the 90 bucks. Thank you again. I plan on doing alot of reading this 3 day weekend and then I may just decide to give it a try myself.

Thanks again

1. Heres the downgrader for 2.80: http://www.noobz.eu/joomla/component/opt...startdown/id,8/

2. Heres the Custom Firmware 3.52 M33: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1210

3. And here's the update to the 3.52 M33 Firmware: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1231 (Install once your on 3.52 M33)

Make sure you do these in that order and you'll br fine :)
Good luck!

GUIDE TO INSTALLING 3.52 M33:
1. Get the officail 3.52 Update and the officail 1.50 Update
2. Rename the 1.50 update to 150.PBP and rename the 3.52 update to 352.PBP.
3. In the 3.52 FW package that you downloaded, find the file called EBOOT.PBP and make a folder in the GAME folder of your PSP called "M33UPDATE" and put the files: EBOOT.PBP (from the CFW package) 150.PBP, and 352.PBP in the "M33UPDATE" folder.
4. On your PSP, go to the Game tab and select the M33 Update Creator.
5. Once it finishes, Go to the Game tab and and selct "M33 UPDATE" and it will install the custom firmware to your PSP.
6. Once your at 3.52 M33, You can delete the two files that you used to update.
7. Make a new file called "M33UPDATE" in the GAME section on you PSP and place the file called EBOOT.PBP from the m33-4 package in the "M33UPDATE".
8. Run the file from your PSP's Game tab and you will have the latest Custom Firmware :D

Open up your PSP's UMD Drive. Look in the upper right hand corner and if you see some gold writting (I think it say's IC1003) then you have a TA-082 mother board. The 2.80 Downgrader that i gave you support's all motherboard version's so you should be fine.

If you can build a computer you can easily do this. All you have to do is transfer files from the computer and onto the memory stick pro duo you use for the PSP, and then use the PSP to run the files. Simple.
