Alright, I didn't play the first two parts of Metroid Prime. I played through Metroid Prime Hunters for DS and loved it. After Playing a few hours of MP3, I thought, "Maybe I should play the first 2. This is fun." Then I thought, maybe not. I don't see myself playing through the games without a wiimote and nunchuck in hand.

Anybody else think that Retro/Nintendo should remap the controls for the original two games and release them for wii? I'd buy them.

Is there a reason that they can't?

I don't think that they need to remap the controls. The wiimote sideways would work just fine like all the other nes games you can download to it. I just played through metroid and supermetroid on my xbox using emulators and it brought back some great memories. What an awesome franchise. There is a great history of metroid right now on IGN if you want to catch up with the storyline and know the history of this particular gaming franchise. Here's the link:

I bought Metroid and Super Metroid on the Virtual console and both play great using the classic controller.

What I was trying to say was that Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2 Echos (both originally released for Gamecube) should have the controls remaped to work like MP3 and re-released for the Wii. I love MP3 but can't see myself playing MP1&2 just using the GC controller.

Update: I was looking through wikipedia.org (hardly a reliable source) to find this:

Quote:
At the Tokyo Game Show in 2005, a modified version of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes was used to demonstrate how Metroid Prime 3: Corruption would take advantage of the Wii controller. In this version, aiming and firing was controlled by pointing the remote at the screen.
If they were able to modify MP2 to work in a demo, why not take it to the next level? Make a full game conversion of MP1&2. A collectors edition. I'm sure Retro Studios would see a nice chunk of change with this release due to the tremendous popularity of the Wii. Heck, Given the fact that the games are old GC titles, put them both on one disc and cut out MP2 multilayer.

Does ANYONE out there think that this is a good idea besides me?

oh I see what you're saying. Yeah, the controls for mp3 are fantastic. I don't know that you'll ever see mp1 and 2 running that way though. Great idea though.
