ok i kno theres a hole bunch of help threads in afterdawn but i just want to kno do i hav to flash my 360 or have a custom firmwire to copy games that i bought or rented to another disc will that disc play on my 360 and if it can what program do u prefer to use to do this

I think you have about 4 questions in your posted text. I will answer them as I've interpreted them.

1) You can play games that you have rented in your xbox 360 without having it modified.

2) You can backup games that you've rented (illegal ofcourse and not recommended) using your PC. You would need a special DVD-ROM that is flashed with Kreon firmware which will allow that drive to read your xbox 360 disks. You could use backup software such as Xbox Backup Creator to then backup those games to your hard drive in an image form. Then use burning software to burn to a DL DVD using a Pioneer DVD-RAM.

3) In order to use "backups" of XBox 360 games, you need to have your Xbox 360 modded.

4) There are a ton of posts which will tell you how to mod your xbox based on the model of the drive in your xbox.

Well, if you get the flashed one from ebay or the non-flashed one and proceed to flash it, that will allow you to make backups using software like xbox backup creator.

You still need to have your Xbox 360 firmware modified in order to play your backups. So getting the drive would solve 50% of your problem.
