Hi everyone I'm new here. I've been reading about psp downgrading for the last few days to prepare enough knowledge for when Lumines comes. These are questions I googled the answers for but had no such luck with. Is it possible to upgrade from 1.50 to 3.52 M33-4? Or is it better/safer/only possible to first go from 1.50 to 3.52 M33 then upgrade my way up to version 4? If anone can offer any guidance or even point me in the way of a tutorial for this, I wouldn't be able to thank you enough.

You have to go from 1.50 to 3.52 M33 then update to 3.52 M33-4.

the READ ME file that comes with the 3.52 M33 upgrade is sufficient enough to guide you through the steps.

Thanks very much. I had no idea the readme had steps so I didn't bother looking.

To save wasting a thread on this, I'll just post this here... So what's the difference between 3.40 OE-A and 3.52 M33? Like, what can I do with M33 that I can't with OE? Just I'm currently on OE-A and am happy with it, but I'm coming colser every day to installing M33 instead as I notice some PSX EBOOT's have problems on OE-A. What features does M33 have that oE-A doesn't?

Theres really no difference, M33 has higher No-UMD compatibility, and has better POPS (PSX) loader support.

A few extra things: far better no-UMD support, higher firmware compatability, built in UMD ripper, access to flash from XMB USB connection, newer themes available for it etc.

Thanks. So is 3.52 M33 stable? Or should I update to 3.52 M33-4?

Patch it to 4, there are virtually no bugs with it.

Okay cool... I have a problem though, where do I get the official Sony 3.52 firmware from? I don't see it on qj.net...

Ignore the instructions on the Sony website, just get the file from "Download procedure" step 3.

Thanks! So, can I run the v4 update directly from the game folder? Or do I need to create and run it from game/150?

After you've upgraded to 3.52 M33 you put the v4 update in GAME150 and run it like other updates.

Hey guys, thanks again. I'm back to ask more questions :P

I successfully downgraded and updated to 3.52 M33 and it's great. I'd like to know where I can find cool homebrew games and such so if anyone has a suggestion please suggest.

Now for the asking: Is running the processor at 333Mhz harmful to the system in anyway besides less battery life? I heard that it saps the battery faster but I don't even know if that's completely true -- It makes sense though. Are there any settings I should change right now besides the No-UMD capability? I'm also very interested in putting the popsloader to use, is there something I should know before attempting PSX emulation? Thanks everyone.

Edit: I just went through my favorites and it seems I didn't save the PSX Iso ripper + conversion process guide. All I know is that I use popstation to convert but I don't know what to use to rip the isos from my CDs. If anyone has a guide that would be really sweet. Thanks.

Another edit: While i'm at it... An issue: I was able to run Tales Of the World as an ISO fine. It was perfect. Then I used UMDgen to convert it into a CSO by extracting the contents from the iso and dragging them into UMDgen. When I go to my memory stick under games the game shows up correctly with the icons and all but it doesn't load. It shows the psp logo then the thing shuts down. Am I compressing the ISO wrong?

For homebrew games, try dl.qj.net, there are some pretty good games there, i'd suggest SnakeSP v7 (Good simple game, graphics are nice as well). From qj you can also get emulators for different systems (GBA/SNES/N64 etc), you'll have to get ROMs from elsewhere (And you can't really ask about it).

What you heard about 333MHz is true, it's not high enough to cause damage to the CPU, but it does drain battery life faster than default (For quite a few different reasons). Set it to 300mhz, you shoudn't really need higher than that, though if a game lags or struggles to load, then up to 333mhz.

As far as settings go, you'll want nearly everything set at disabled, enabling Skip SCE and Hide corrupt icons is fine though. It's usually best to set Game folder kernel to 1.50.

Usually you shouldn't need to worry about using popsloader, just place PSX games at ms0:/PSP/GAME/(Game Name)/EBOOT.PBP and they should be fine.

Not sure about guides for ripping PSX games, but the should be a guide somewhere on aD. Finally, for ISO -> CSO conversion, try Ciso (It works fine with al my games), set it to compression value 5.

Haha, that was amazing. As informative as could be. Thanks a bunch Shokz :]

Use recovery files, google "1.5 recovery winstaller".

I'm having trouble finding the Ciso converter. I can only find the file on a forum I need to register on in a different language and I'm not even sure if it's the latest version. Can I find it here somewhere? And the CSO should run just like the ISO correct?

Yes, ISOs and CSOs work exactly the same, CSOs can be a little more laggy if clock speed is set at default.

I'll upload the Ciso converter i have.

EDIT: Here it is http://www.sendspace.com/file/bv4013

rahulneel - your signature needs sorting out.

Signatures

1. Text-only signatures should have at most 5 lines of text.

2. An image-only signature should be less than 50kb in size, and be at most 500 pixels wide and 200 pixels tall.

3. If you use an animated picture in the signature, it should not be too distractive. Eg. blinking images or images with quick movement are not allowed.

4. If you want to use both text and image in your signature the image should not be more than 500 pixels wide and 100 pixels tall, and you can use up to three lines of text.
