'Interlaced' but no de-interlace necessary?

Wird stuff.. Xmpeg says the video is interlaced, but if I use the standard setting of de-interlace (shift odd field' with the 10% motion detection, I get an image that looks like those motion-lines in comics when there is movement.
If I set it to 'greedy' and '25%' (just something I tried, no reason for these speciifc settings) the encode looks fine, but I don't see a difference with the encode I made without de-interlace, which looked fine as well, afaik.

Any reason or explanation for this?
