I'm sure this question has been asked many times but I can't seem to find the answer.

I have been using dvd shrink and dvd decrypter. I now have a few different types of files. vob bup and dvd navigation files (five of each). They are all in a folder called video_ts.

What I would like to do back up this disk but only copy the main film. I am not interested in any extras that come with it.

I have a few problems.

1) Which files do I burn onto disk? Is it only the vob files or do I need BUP files etc?

2) I bought a Pioneer 106 but when I try and use Nero it asks me to chose my recorder and when I chose the Pioneer 106 it says "Sorry, this Nero version can only be used with the recorder it has been bundled with"

Is there any other package that someone can recommend?

The one thing that I am really not interested in doing is just backing up an entire disk. For some strange reason Nero will let me do that though.

Thank you in advance for your responce.

If you only want the movie, DVD Shrink is the perfect software. You reauthor which will open up a new shrink which is empty. Take the movie and drag it to the new shrink window. then click backup and select the folder that you have made for the files.

Better detail is at oriphus' website:
http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/user_guides.htm
or
http://dvdshrink.info/guides.php

You need all the files--VOB, ifo, and bup. there will be a multiple of them as the VOB are limited in size to 1 gb.

Nero is a good burner and Oriphus has a good guide for it.

I bought a Pioneer 106 but when I try and use Nero it asks me to chose my recorder and when I chose the Pioneer 106 it says "Sorry, this Nero version can only be used with the recorder it has been bundled with"

Please ignore the previuos post. I now have a different problem. I was able to get a copy of Nero 6 on Kazaa. I followed all the instructions on Chrismccann/Paul Shepherd (the link in the post above). It was really helpful until I got to step 8. Once I tried to move the VIDEO_TS folder over it keeps telling me that:-

"You have added DVD-Video content to a compliation type that will not result in a DVD-Video compliant disk. To create disks playable in standalone DVD-Video players, please use the DVD-Video compliation type"

I am going to try and burn a disk anyway. I will post a message on here to let you know what happens but if it doesn't work can someone please advise me what to do next. Thank you

When using Nero to burn, be sure to use the wizard. For a compliant disk, the files need to be in a certain order: IFO, VOB then BUP. Any other sequence may cause your DVD disk to not play on some stand-alones. The wizard automatically calls the correct sorting step and produces a compliant disk.

I don't use Nero (never could get the bugger to work) so I use recordnow which works great. People have more success with 5.10.?.? than with 6. Make sure you have the latest updates and try the different tab settings. Oriphus' guides are very good. The guide in dvdshrink.info covers 2 different settings for Nero (udf/iso and another one) and you may have to play around to find the setting that actually works. Herbsman is a good Nero resource.

Just to let you know that I finally managed to burn a DVD sucessfully. The joke is, I cannot remember whether I used shrink or decrypter. All I do know is that I used Nero 6 and took the advise from two posts up and used the wizard (sort of).

I will now be trying to back up other DVD's.

A BIG BIG thank you to all your help. Even those people who didn't know they helped me (the web site guides).

I will, of course, try and help anyone else who has problems themselves.
