This may seem like a total noob question, but, what does custom firmware do? i mean ive heard about people having it on the psp but what are the advantages?

if you have a psp you will know .if you do not you will be thinking santa has delivered all your presents on one day for a few years if it ever arrives .might buy the 299uk version if it gets close to being feasible don`t wanna knacker me full price version to do it like a psp.if sony have got wise over the psp ,we is all doomed and paying 50 quid for a game .
