I'm about to downgrade my 3.50 to 1.5, and install some custom firmware. although, i don't know which firmware to use. i see 3.40oe, 3.52m33 etc.. which would be best, and why? what are the differences between them? i need to make sure i pick something usable and stable since i assume you can't change from one 'brand' of firmware to the other.
it might help if you knew what i want to use to psp for. i'd like to find some homebrew applications to run, such as a simple text viewer so i can read text files, and a few other things. i'd also like to run emulators for genesis and snes games. i don't mind buying my games, so i'm not sure yet if i'll be downloading isos or anything like that.
another thing. other than running homebrew and iso games on custom firmware, what are some other advantages of having it? has anyone yet devised a way to make surfing the internet usable by letting the psp use the memory card as a cache? i do love the fact that i can surf the net on this thing but it's practically useless sometimes because of the out of memory error! i've already tried things like deleting cache, turning it off etc.

3.52 M33-4 is the end-all be-all best. With it, you can play ever PSP game/movie. Only M33 offers the ability to play PSP Movies ISO files. All custom XMB themes are now built specifically for 3.5x M33. If they create it for 3.40 OE-A, it will take extra time. A good CXMB designer will create both, but most are focusing on M33. M33 offers Sony's isocache.bin file, which allows you to play PSP ISO/CSO files without a UMD in the drive with a 99% compatibility. M33 gives you direct access to the UMD, Memory Stick, and flash0,flash1,flash2, and flash3 directly from the XMB (No need to hard boot into Recovery Mode). Recovery Mode has a nicer GUI. M33 is alive and still building updates while 3.40 OE-A, that's all there is. D_A is dead, so no more OE. M33 will most likely be the only team, or at least the first, to find a way to downgrade the new PSP2000 which will include Firmware 4.00. All this combined with more features than I could possibly include in one thread. Just download 3.52 M33 and then Update #4. Try it. You will like it.
There is no excuse NOT to mod! Don't follow the rules, make them!

to delete unwanted files just format memory stick. and for m33-4 just unzip the update to GAME150 and run it from psp
